When telling discover to close, while nothing is occurring, it will hang completely and require a KILL to be closed.
Would you be able to provide a backtrace? Or a way to reproduce? Under which distribution?

Kubuntu, and discover's behaviour seems to be very slow and erratic in general, resulting in it not being used at all. It doesn't even show any updates without firing a manual "sudo apt upgrade" anyway...
