According to official help entry https://www.dropbox.com/help/16 direct links from public folder were disabled for basic accounts (and they are planning to get rid of it for paid ones too in september) from 15 march on. And sure thing creation of them from dolphin's plugin menu entry does not work anymore (curiously selecting this entry hangs plasma for a little while in my case). And as of 23.4.19 version of official linux Dropbox client "Create Dropbox Link" in dolphin does not work for any other folder or file either, however according to the same help entry creation of "shared links" should still work. I unfortunately never used this feature and can't really remember if menu for creating shared links ever existed in dolphin, nor have I tested other Dropbox related menu entries - they might be broken too now for all i know.
Okay, so if I understand this bug correctly, Dropbox deprecated direct links from the public folder and you now need to use a shared link for that, but Dolphin does not allow you to create these shared links from the context menu. Is that correct? And does this still happen with a newer version of Dolphin/the plugin?
Hmm, it works just fine if I right-click on any file within ~/Dropbox and choose "Copy Dropbox Link". Or is this about something else? I don't have a "Create Dropbox Link" entry or a public folder so maybe this is already fixed?
@rjx_, it'd be great if you could answer the questions from comment 2 which would allow us to further triage this bug. Thanks!
Ah, sorry for the long silence. Let's see, when i click Copy Dropbox Link in Dolphin's context menu (anywhere in Dropbox (sub)folder(s)) now it does the following: taskbar is unresponsive for about half a minute, then Copied link on 'filename' notification appears but there's actually nothing new in the clipboard. And btw alt-tabbing works just fine while taskbar is hanging. I.e. behavior is still essentially the same as before - trying to get a public link for any file anywhere in Dropbox folder(s) results in failure and taskbar hangs with no usable links produced ever. env: plasma 5.13.3 kf 5.47 qt 5.11.1 dolphin 18.04.3 dropbox 53.4.67

Can confirm now, thanks. Whatever app you try to paste the clipboard contents to hangs for a while, which seems to indicate that garbage or excessively long text is being added to the clipboard.
I use default Plasma Clipboard tray widget as a clipboard manager, but iirc usually it can process huge amounts of text at once (it may hang for a little while though). In this case however i see nothing in both Clipboard widget listing & secondary clipboard (middleclick one), so i assumed it just did not work and hanged for some other reason.
This bug is still there in Plasma 5.18.5 (on Kubuntu 20.04.2) and Dolphin/dolphin-plugins 19.12.3.
