the kpatience/spider solver says "this game cannot be won" while it is still possible to win the game. i experienced this quite a few times: i'm playing spider and at some point the solver says that the game can't be won anymore. i just go on playing and i can still win the game. i guess the algorithm to determine the winnability of a specific game has some flaws.
I have observed the same behavior in a kpatience/spider game though, unfortunately, I did not record the number of the game. Also, my platform is Fedora 30, not Ubuntu, but I assume that does not matter. Having played Spider on Linux for years, I noticed that a couple of years ago the solver was considerably improved and its credibility clearly increased. However, there still are situations in which the solver claims a game cannot be won when it actually can. Another annoying solver error is the situation near the end of a game when the solver says: "Undeterminable whether the game can be won" - and there are two unturned cards left together with three vacant spaces on the board! I have a snapshot of such a situation but it probably is not needed.
I rewrote the spider solver from scratch, so if you could test later versions, that would be awesome.Without save games I can't tell if it solves your situation.
