I use spectacle for capturing a rectangular area.
The window gets darkened and it is for me very hard to see the mouse pointer.
It could be made brighter or bigger.
Tried with OpenSuse Leap 42.1 and KDE Neon 5.9.3.

I haven't changed the default theme or the appearance.
