If you right click on the applet in the system tray and open the "Audio Volume Settings". Once the settings are open, if you click on the "Audio Volume" section, it actually pops up the applet sound menu on the system tray. Once you click the "Audio Volume" again it takes you to the actual settings. It should not affect the applet at all It should take you to the Audio Volume settings on the first Click Here is a small video to show you what happens https://streamable.com/4ohyo
That's a bug in plasmashell and it is only affected when using with Qt 5.8.

Is anybody able to reproduce this using a version of Qt more recent than 5.8? I can't.
cannot reproduce on Arch Linux, qt 5.10.1.
