Description Rigo Wenning 2017-03-10 11:29:35 UTC
I have an invitation with text in the Description field in text and in HTML. When I look at the message structure viewer, I only see the VCS/ICS Calender type, not the HTML etc. With "V" or looking with mutt, I see a vcard invitation and an HTML part.

The display does the opposite: It displays the HTML only and does not display the information from the vcard description at all!

An indication that the parser has done something wrong can be found in the fact that the rendered email/invitation shows: <font color="#ff0000">Some Federation -- 123 Rue de Somewhere, Paris -- salle Trucmuche</font> (<strike>Some - salle Trucmuche</strike>

This was painful because the vcard description contained text that was not in the HTML description. It took me a long time searching and some mutt intervention to find out that the text was there, but not displayed.

Reported as bug 377452.
Comment 2 Rigo Wenning 2017-03-10 21:20:33 UTC
Please close bug 377452 and keep bug 377453 instead. 377452 is the old one that I tried to correct, but the system created a new bug. The description here is better.
Not displaying existing information that should be displayed is beyond "normal" in my system as it undermines the trust in the system. This far worse than any crash.

Ah sorry, I only quickly read the description, and they looked identical.

Do you have a testcase ?

Laurent, thanks for caring.

Yes of course I have that email. But I would like to not publicly expose it to the internet. I can send it to your email address if you promise to only use it for debugging kmail2. I would zip or forward by mutt in order to prevent the integrity and that kmail isn't doing strange stuff.

I have another email where kmail2 turned an image (base64) into kanji - signs. This appeared recently. Never had anything like this before with the remark:
log_messagecore: Adding image 0x36d1050
log_templateparser: Adding 0x36d1050 as an embedded image
sonnet.core: deleting 0x36cb130 for "en_US"
sonnet.core: Unhandled script 126
sonnet.core: Unhandled script 127
sonnet.core: Unhandled script 128
sonnet.core: Unhandled script 129
sonnet.core: Unhandled script 130
sonnet.core: deleting 0xb7690a0 for "en_US"
sonnet.core: deleting 0xb77bba8 for "en_US"
sonnet.core: deleting 0xb768b60 for "fr_FR"
sonnet.core: deleting 0xb788dc8 for "en_US"

So something rather general seems to be broken. I don't know whether this is kmail itself or some underlying libraries. I had no such issue in 2016, so may be a recent update/regression.

Hi,
I fixed some bug with invitation rendering but I don't know if your bug is fixed without a test case.
you can send me it in private (as mbox format)

I can't find that email anymore, so we can close this bug. Perhaps related is the incorrect display and handling of attachments that worked previously. Drag & Drop of attachments from one mail to another does not work anymore. Display of attachments is only at the end. Dragging from there to dolphin works again (there was another bug reported by me)
Comment 8 Rigo Wenning 2017-06-15 08:12:52 UTC
Ha, found it. Will send you by email

Thank you for reporting this issue in KDE software. As it has been a while since this issue was reported, can we please ask you to see if you can reproduce the issue with a recent software version?

If you can reproduce the issue, please change the status to "REPORTED" when replying. Thank you!

The synchronization (imap/calendar etc) was so crappy that I stopped using kontact. It had eaten too much of my valuable information. After years of bug reporting without any reaction I gave up. Sorry. You can close this bug.
