Can confirm this bug occurs on the AppImage version as well as the version in Ubuntu 17.04's repos. The Preview render's default settings DON'T WORK excluding MJPEG. If MJPEG is the only format that will work out of the box, it should be default.
Might it be a problem when using certain drivers? I get this error on my computer that uses intel graphics (and intel CPU) but not on my AMD graphics computer(with AMD GPU), both using open drivers on both.
same here: especially color correction effects get rendered wrong in the preview (bezier curves: saturation effect for example)
Please try with the actual Kdenlive AppImage version 18.08.2 Run the Appimage from the terminal (press CTRL + ALT + T). Move to the AppImage folder and run the .AppImage: ./Kdenlive*.AppImage
