Hello, Currently, it is not possible to do any rearrangements to the menu that concern moving an application from one submenu to another without corrupting the configuration. Steps to replicate the issue: 1. reset the menu configuration to system default via the corresponding application menu in the menu editor 2. take the appications 'DVDstyler' and gOCR that once installed is being listed in an extra submenu 'unassigned'. 3. drag and drop them one by one to the multimedia submenu 4. save 5. run kbuildsycoca5 6. error message "Recreating ksycoca file ("/home/...", version 303) Still in the time dict (i.e. deleted files) ("apps") kf5.kservice.sycoca: The menu spec file contains a Layout or DefaultLayout tag without the mandatory Merge tag inside. Please fix your file." 7. From now on KDE Plasma 5 will crash frequently while browsing the menu... I am on openSUSE Leap 42.2 64-bit which is the latest stable release and has only been installed recently as a clean install. KDE Plasma Version is 5.8.3, KDE Frameworks Version is 5.26.0, QT-Version is 5.6.1.
I forgot to mention step 1.1 - an initial run of kbuildsycoca5 on the reset menu. This led to no errors. The errors only occured after doing the first change to the menu structure as described in steps 2ff.
Thanks for the report. I've just tested these steps against Plasma from git master and I cannot reproduce the issue. Can you please test and confirm if this issue is still occurring or if this bug report can be marked as resolved, thanks.
