When selecting a mail in the list, the message view pane is showing the plain text mail and not loading html and remote content as set in the global settings. When I open the settings and un-select and re-select the ¨Prefer HTML to plain text" and ¨Allow messages to load external references from the Internet¨ the html message is displayed. rpm is kmail5-16.08.2-1.1.x86_64 (opensuse leap 42.2)
I observe the same behaviour with kmail-16.08.3 on Fedora 25 (kmail 5.3.3). Steps to reproduce: - Open Kmail preferences, disable "Prefer Html to plain text" and re-enable it. - Hit ok -> Kmail will warn all folder specific settings will be overwritten, accept this => At this point kmail will effectively prefer html to plain text for any mail message you have like this. - quit kmail - restart kmail => At this point kmail has reverted to preferring plain text to html - Open kmail preferences => Observe the setting "Prefer Html to plain text" is still active So clearly something goes wrong during startup of kmail. Either the setting is not queried at all at startup or the per-folder preferences are configured before the global setting is loaded. Or something like that. This is highly confusing for less experienced users and a reason to hold off upgrading them to kmail 5.3.3.
