digiKam 4.12 is a very old version of digiKam (3 year ago). We are now in 5.4.0 with more than 400 bugs fixes since 4.X release.

If your Linux disto do not provide a most recent version, use AppImage linux bundle that we provide. See download page from digikam.org.

Can you make a screenshot or screencast? We had a similar behavior (is fixed) a long time ago when the thumbnail view was sorted by date. The problem I have never seen here again and is also not to reproduce.

digikam35.txt

Ok,3.5 works great,I will continue to use, fine product, I rave to anyone who listens, very nice!
*3.5  opening 5.4 database ( I expected this - no worries)
get error 1 and see 35.txt
*5.4 opening 3.5 databasesorry, not sure how to run appimage using console see 54.txtset database: /media/bugman/USB20FD, scan collections start (wait 20 min)all albums are there-check, all digikam tags are there-check
open Album=Vehicles note tag 'mustang' see 2
set tagview = mustang ; no folders , no images see 3, error: storage location of image is not available

possibilities:    1.) 3.5 db is corrupt  - how do I fix it? (without losing data?)

How can I help?Thanks, Rick

Ok,all is good. the 3.5 database must have been corrupt, still worked, but corrupt.1. new tag to replace existing tag
2. filter with old tag, select all, assign new tag and remove old tag3. delete old tag
note: in every tag replaced, the old tag reported more photo's tagged than should have.rebuild the database
4. assign tag to photo5. delete tags in database6. get tags from photo'stag view functions as it should, all is goodThank you!! Very niceRick
