My Krusader 2.5.1-beta build on Ubuntu 16.10 couldn't open tar archives initially. After some investigation I realized that this functionality was provided by the kio-extras-data package which wasn't installed. There are also some network protocols provided by kio-extras package, not installed by default on Ubuntu either. I think that both these packages need to be listed under "Suggested packages" in the INSTALL file.

Note that initially I thought that the separation between kio-extras and kio-extras-data is networking protocols vs. archives. I was wrong, kio-extras-data is simply the platform-independent part of the kio-extras package. It's sufficient to install kio-extras, it lists kio-extras-data as a dependency.
