It is not working with Gimp and Inkscape. I understand that it is for KDE Qt apps. But full advantage of global menu opens when you work with professional graphics editors (because you use menu often and it is pretty large). Is it possible to make it work with GTK apps too?
The global menu does not work with gtk apps, i have tested libreoffice and gedit on kaos.
There's nothing we can do about that. They consider the Global Menu protocol deprecated and use something else which we don't support. (I would accept patches but I won't invest any time on this myself, for the forseeable future, anyways, sorry)
Created attachment 103832 [details] attachment-25960-0.html That is sad. Because if GM will not work with such "menu heavy" apps like Gimp, Libre Office, Inscape, it will make no much sence to have it :( May be we should ask for Qt versions of Gimp, etc? :) 4 февр. 2017 г. 11:57 PM пользователь "Kai Uwe Broulik" < bugzilla_noreply@kde.org> написал: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=375912 Kai Uwe Broulik <kde@privat.broulik.de> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|UNCONFIRMED |RESOLVED Resolution|--- |UPSTREAM --- Comment #2 from Kai Uwe Broulik <kde@privat.broulik.de> --- There's nothing we can do about that. > Maybe we should ask for Qt versions of Gimp, etc? In the case of GIMP, try Krita. It isn't technically for the same purpose, but it may be just fine, or even better than GIMP depending on what you're using it for. For more basic photo editing, Digikam should also be considered.
So, if one wanted to submit a bug to GNOME to request support for Plasma's global menu protocol, would they file it against GTK+ (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=gtk%2B)? And if so, which GTK+ component would it correspond to? (Can't hurt to try and request that the dev's add support for this feature -- it's a really nice widget that Plasma offers; it would be even better if it worked with Qt & GTK apps, you know?)
Plasma uses the old Ubuntu global menu protocol, which GNOME *deliberately* broke compatibility with.
