When I try to add multiple .png files into my Project Bin as an image sequence, they still enter into the Bin as individual png files -- not as a single playable clip. Bug discovered while using: Kdenlive 17.03.70 via ppa://kdenlive/kdenlive-master Linux Mint (Ubuntu) 18.1 64-bit. Qt 5.5.1 KDE Frameworks 5.18.0
i just tried adding a sequence of images as a slideshow sequence and it worked out fine. Using same version as yours under archlinux though.
Strange, I tried even renaming all 60 .png files (eliminating the spaces and having a numeric suffix) and still they were imported as individual images. I can confirm this because the default duration for a single still image clip in my Kdenlive settings is 5-seconds, and the default duration for an image in a sequence is a single frame. When I CTRL+A to select all .png's in the folder and click "OK", they all receive a separate row in the Project Bin, and have a default duration of 5 seconds.
Jesse, did you add them a clips, then select them in the dialog, or did you use add slideshow clip (or whatever it is called, I rarely use that menu item)?
Could you please provide some feedback?
@Wegwerf, Yes, I went to Add Clip, then selected all of the images in the dialog box, then checked the "import images as sequence", then clicked OK. They imported with the duration I'd put in settings for single still images, leading me to believe Kdenlive was recognizing them as single images during import. @farid, sorry for the delay in my replies -- been super busy with some new virtual reality projects. Cool stuff, but I don't want to let it sway my devotion to Kdenlive and free video editing. :) I'll try to be more prompt in my replies.
UPDATE: Adding an image sequence through the "Add Slideshow Clip" method (using the Filename pattern method) produces the result I'm looking for: a series of .png images are imported as a single clip, moving at 1 still image per frame. Currently, trying to add the same .png files as above using the "Add Clip", then selecting all and enabling the "Import image sequence" checkbox and clicking "OK" imports all of the .png files as separate files, each with a duration of 5-seconds. CONCLUSION: Maybe it would be better to remove this check-box from the Add clip import window (and probably the transparency checkbox next to it, since it would only logically apply to image sequences, anyways) and simply educate users to use the Add Slideshow clip method? If we go this route, I would suggest finding a better term for the Clip. Industry professionals will recognize "image sequence", typically, as importing a series of stills into a single clip. Maybe even separate the two into two different options: "Add Slideshow" and "Add Image Sequence", then create a layout similar to the "Add Slideshow" widget, but hard-coded for importing still images in a sequence? Just brainstorming, here.
Now, when I add a clip and check the import image sequence it doesn't work any more. This happened after an update: Kdenlive 17.07.70 KDE Frameworks 5.34.0 Qt 5.9.0 (built against 5.8.0) MLT 6.5

I prefer to add the images from add clip and set the length of them to one 1 in the settings. playback is smoother than adding the images as a slideshow clip. have you noticed this?
Maybe one possible solution would be to remove the checkbox in the Add Clip window and change the menu action name of "Add Slideshow Clip" to "Add Image Sequence"? That would be more easily recognizable for semi-pro & professional editors, and it would produce the desired result. Thoughts?
@farid, I can't say I've noticed any performance difference between using the "Add Clip" method and the "Add Slideshow Clip" method.
(In reply to Jesse from comment #10) > @farid, I can't say I've noticed any performance difference between using > the "Add Clip" method and the "Add Slideshow Clip" method. Can't see the difference either anymore. Smooth image sequence playback is something I really really really need. Hope this gets fixed someday. As for your report I still can't reproduce it.
I just tried to import a .png image sequence I rendered out from Blender using 17.08.3, and got the same problematic result. Steps: (1) Click on Add Clip (2) Check the "Import image sequence" box (3) Navigate to folder containing the .png's and select all (4) Click "OK" RESULT All of the images are imported separately as still clips and not as a sequence. Here's a video example: https://youtu.be/qMHl6I8WDjQ.
Created attachment 109162 [details] img seq You have something missing maybe? Here it works fine.
Glad you sent that screencast Farid, thank you. I noticed in yours that you have the "Transparent background for images" box checked. Mine is unchecked by default. When I check it, the image sequence imports as expected! So, the bug is this, then: BEHAVIOR When The "Transparent background for images" is unchecked, and "Import image sequence" is checked, image sequences import as stand-alone still clips. EXPECTED BEHAVIOR Regardless of whether "Transparent background for images" is checked or unchecked, when user checked the "Import image sequence" checkbox, images import as sequence. Farid, can you confirm by trying to import a series of images with "Transparent background fro images" unchecked?

It works even with it unchecked. I think the issue might be a kde dependency?
Jesse could you please test if this happens both with JPG and PNG image formats?
If you can provide the information requested in comment #16, please add it.
I'll try to grab some .jpg image sequences and test that, but I can confirm this happens on .png sequences.
hi, Jesse, you can add your file png original and we will check for "reproduce" okay? my case is not reproduce your report.. but i can confirm little problem but not serious: my file png has transparents and secuences. in kdenlive i do "unckeck" to : "transparent background for images", kdenlive is imported the file png (transparent) result there are transparent.. i dont know why: phrase "transparent background for images" maybe is for JPG..? phrase "transparent background for images" is not clear for information details.. i will wait from Jesse for file original PNG sequences.. thank you
Jesse, to further investigate this issue, Kdenlive developers need the information requested in comment #16 and comment #19. If you can provide it, or need help with finding that information, please add a comment.
