Kdenlive screen without buttons

I install kdenlive stable version on Linux Mint Serena 18.1 64 bits. I have problems with the visualization of the all buttons ( I attach screen capture). The options exists if you passed the cursor over the buttons, but no show it.

This seems to be some issue with your ( Mint's ) gtk thema / style(s)..

Is working just fine from a plasma5 session.

Hi, thanks for your comunication. I don't think so. I tested with other themes, screen configurations and applications. All of my  other programs installed don't show this problem, only Kdenlive. Do you need more funcionality test. I desinstall and reinstall from the linux mint application center and nothing.Any idea?
Thanks.

Hi, Gabriel.
Thanks for your support, maybe I forgot mention that I use the default Cinammon UI for Linux Mint Serena. I understand that in plasma it's ok, but this don't apply for my UI. I'm happy with the compatibility and stability of this Mint distribution. I love Kdenlive, I think is the better video application for linux! On the past I used Kdenlive on Gnome, Unity and Xfce without problems. Maybe this information will serve you.

Yes is clear to me you are not using Plasma..

But since you don't get any icons this is not a kdenlive ( or app issue ) but
has something to to with gtk themes and / or packaging bugs in your Distro.

Kdenlive installs his icons in /hicolor/ .. so maybe try to run :

gtk-update-icon-cache -f /usr/share/icons/hicolor ( this should be something your package manager should do on install )

Maybe missing breeze icons , however it should run without just fine.. however
I have no clue about Mint so maybe you'll need the breeze icons too.
Comment 6 Matthias 2017-02-03 07:38:07 UTC
sudo apt install kde-runtime
Comment 7 farid 2017-02-03 13:04:40 UTC
Yes install the breeze theme and icons. If that doesn't work maybe you can also try hard reseting your settings by running in the terminal:

rm .config/kdenliverc

and

.local/share/kxmlgui5/kdenlive/kdenliveui.rc

I am closing this since it is not a Kdenlive bug. Please take this issue to the forum for further support.

Thanks :)

Dear Staff of the bug-control,  I informed them that with their indications the problem was solved. Thank you for your support. Perhaps it would be convenient for the installation instructions to include a section to mention this possible aggregate (sudo apt install kde-runtime), it is just only one idea.

Thanks, best regards from Mexico.

Comment 10 Matthias 2017-02-03 20:15:42 UTC
Since sudo apt install kde-runtime seems to work: I found this via Google in some seconds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5-XPdDF9QI

This is one (of many, imho) packaging issues in Ubuntu.
They simply dont care about .. well, basic things like sane packaging and testing a software, before they ship.

Cantata, Virtualbox and dozens of other examples prove it as well.

Such issues lead users to say that "KDE is buggy", while their packagers are simply incompetent.
Comment 11 Daniel 2017-02-08 22:30:40 UTC
Hi Mathias, I agree about your arguments, but try walking in the shoes
of the new linux user. Maybe the 90% of the new users are simply
users, not experts. They aren't know about packagers and the GUI's
wars. The simply users are just users. The main reason of any product
or proyect are the users.I used the forum before search on another
sources, and I don't found any mention about the theme. I just only
try to use the channel that KDE offer us inside the program.I really
apreciate your support and I only want express my opinion.

Daniel and Mathias, thanks for your help. We've had some issues with missing icons and themes that had been resolved in the forums. Here is an example: https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=265&t=135987&hilit=icon+breeze

Although due to your report we have double checked and it seems the kdenlive-stable PPA was broken and had been causing some issues, it should be fixed this week.

And Daniel, always feel free to express your opinions with us, be it here or in the forums.

Cheers

Hi Mathias, it seems that kde-runtime is a kde4 package and it shouldn't have fixed the issue. Either way it should be fixed soon.

Thanks for the help!

I do that every day, believe me. Thats exactly the reason, why i wrote that.
I mean the packagers, not you.

I fully agree and appreciate with you.
