Description martin.strecker 2017-01-16 15:39:57 UTC
Application: kdeinit5 ()

Qt Version: 5.5.1
Operating System: Linux 4.1.36-44-default x86_64
Distribution: "openSUSE Leap 42.1 (x86_64)"

-- Information about the crash:
- What I was doing when the application crashed:

I restarted my laptop from sleep mode.

- Unusual behavior I noticed:

Today again (as so often in the last months), I have tried to disconnect my
laptop from an external monitor, up to now without success. The process is erratic, sometimes it works, sometimes it works after fumbling around for 30 minutes, and unfortunately, now, I am in a situation where it does not seem to be possible to disconnect the external display any more - my primary display shows grey and green stripes, impossible to recognize anything on the screen (I have often wondered what KDE developers call the primary display, and I would love to see a more precise definition. For me, this is the display integrated in the laptop and whose malfunctioning makes the laptop essentially useless). I am sorry I cannot be more precise, I do not have the impression that the environment is a bit deterministic.

So here is a non-technical comment and feature request (if you call that a
feature): For some time now, the KDE environment has continuously degraded and is nowa real mess, because
the developers concentrate on gimmicks instead of on a stable system.

So couldn't you just offer a KDE mode that offers an elementary functionality
for people who need a system that simply works, just the way KDE did 10 years
ago? I think that all this would not prevent you from offering another mode
for the 0.03% of toy users that like to amuse themselves with bumping icons,
transparent windows which make it impossible to see what is written in them, and similar entertainment stuff.

I am really upset, because using KDE becomes a real waste of time, impossible to use in a professional environment and if KDE does change fundamentally in the very near
future, I will switch to another environment.

Best regards,
Martin Strecker

The crash can be reproduced sometimes.
