Description Bastian Köcher 2017-01-13 10:03:03 UTC
Hi,
I wanted to try wayland with the new beta, but after login plasmashell does not start and I only can move my mouse. After some time, the mouse also stucks and I have to reset my laptop. I also tried to start a plasma session by hand with startplasmacompositor and that is working, but as I start plasmashell (from a different tty) my laptop stucks again.

I am using the kernel modesetting driver for my Intel GPU.

I'm a little bit lost on how you try to start and what is working and what not.

Could you please specify exactly the steps you try?

Okay, first I tried to go the normal way by choosing the plasma Wayland session in sddm. Doing this results in a stuck laptop after a minute and I have to hard reset.

My second way was to go into tty2, stop sddm and run startplasmacompositor. Wait some time and then I switched to tty3 and executed the following command "DISPLAY=:0 plasmashell". After running the last command my laptop hangs again and I have to hard reset.

I hope that explains better what I have done.

The second approach cannot work at all. You are trying to start an X11 plasmashell on Wayland. You cannot start OpenGL based applications from another tty.

Concerning your first approach: initially you mention that the mouse cursor is there and can be moved. Is that the case?

Yeah, the mouse is visible and moveable.

Reassigning to Plasma: KWin works

> Yeah, the mouse is visible and moveable.

Has something changed after Plasma updates on your system? Could you please try to login/logout on current latest live Plasma? - https://files.kde.org/neon/images/neon-devedition-gitunstable/current/

Sorry for the long delay. I installed the latest arch updates today and everything worked so far. I think that the issue is resolved :) Thanks.
