Description tukkek 2017-01-13 00:30:08 UTC
Hello, I've written this bug report to Debian in an attempt to prevent the KDE desktop in it's current state from becoming part of the next stable release. More information https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=851216

I'm marking this as "grave" here because once the workspace freezes there is nothing I can do to help it get back to normal except logout and login again. Not only this is a major disruption which forces me to stop my current tasks, it would also force novice users to do a hard reboot on their machines (using the physical power button). The kickoff menu doesn't work so they can't access the "reboot" function or even "logout". I can do it because I know a few shortcuts and other ways to access windows to close what I'm doing prior to logging out but this is something not all users know, so they could and would effectively be locked inside their frozen desktop sessions.

Let me know what sort of extra information I can provide concerning this. The only thing I haven't put into the Debian report is that I use an "auto-hide" panel for my menus, task manager and system tray - but I don't think that is really relevant...

Is this with xserver 1.19.0? If yes, could you please check if updating to xserver 1.19.1 fixes the issue?

If you can provide the information requested in comment #1, please add it.

I was waiting for Debian 'testing' to roll out xserver 1.19.1 but it seems that it is still at 1.19.0. And yes, the bug is happening on 1.19.0.

I'll let you know what happens once it upgrades to 1.19.1, which is already on the 'unstable' repository.

I am basing this off of the package xserver-common.

Sounds like this bug: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=373427

You can confirm it by either forcing DRI3 rendering (see comment #19) or upgrading to xorg 1.19.1

If it turns out to be something else, please reopen this bug.
