There should be the ability/option to double click on an empty frame and instantly create a new frame, than going to the Animation panel and clicking on the New frame button all the time. If the frame is occupied, then nothing should happen but simply select that frame. Updating End frame: This should also update the "End" frame in the Animation panel as well if the new frame created exceeds the current "End" frame, so previewing is faster as well. Auto-add in-between frames: Finally if your current last frame is e.g. 4 and you double click at 8, it should create new empty frames-inbetween 4 and 8
This wouldn't be much work to implement, but before doing so I'd like to know if it's still necessary with the various UI changes that we've put into Krita 5's new animation timeline. We also have a new "autokey" mode that can be used to insert blank frames instead of duplicates. As for the auto inbetweens, that part probably won't happen because it relies on some assumptions about the user's animation. Please try out Krita 5.0 or the changes in Krita Next nightly build, and let us know if this is still something that you want.
