When I click on a mailbox, and its list of messages is displayed, I would expect the last message that was selected (when I previously browsed that mailbox) to be automatically selected and open. If this is the first time I'm opening the mailbox (i.e. no previously selected message exists), then I would expect either the oldest unread message to be selected, or the current behaviour (i.e. no message gets selected). This is possibly connected to #374820 -- as in, if a message is automatically selected upon opening a mailbox, the linked bug would be taken care of.
Selecting a message has side-effects such as starting a timer which marks it read after a short while. I would like to wait for further feedback from other users before we make a change here.
