bad video thumbnails

DK 4.x worked fine in this area. Now on kubuntu 16.04 and DK 5.3 I have buggy thumbnails of video files. The picture attached explains it best. The video is from camera, mts format.

Dolphin, gwenview makes nice thumbanails.

Please try either the prerelease appimage (https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0BzeiVr-byqt5Y0tIRWVWelRJenM) or wait till the release which will happen later today or tomorrow (http://download.kde.org/stable/digikam/). Digikam dropped QTMultimedia and instead uses QtAV for video support. This will probably fix your problem. Please write back if this is the case.

I will wait for the 5.4 and report back. Thanx.

Simon,

I confirm the dysfunction with 5.4.0 AppImage.

It's strange all work fine with video thumbnails until few days. Somebody has changed something about ?

digikam.dimg: "/mnt/data2/photos/GILLES/NEW/FUJI-X10/DSCF1010.MOV" : QIMAGE file identified
digikam.metaengine: Loading image history ""
digikam.dimg.qimage: Can not load " "/mnt/data2/photos/GILLES/NEW/FUJI-X10/DSCF1010.MOV" " using DImg::QImageLoader!
digikam.general: Cannot extract preview for "/mnt/data2/photos/GILLES/NEW/FUJI-X10/DSCF1010.MOV"
digikam.general: Cannot extract preview for "/mnt/data2/photos/GILLES/NEW/FUJI-X10/DSCF1010.MOV"

Just press F5 in an album with video. Note that to preview video or to slide video work perfectly. So it's not a codec or QtAV problem.

Can you confirm the dysfunction ?

Everything fine here with my compiled version. Thumbnails are created, no problem. Nothing has changed in the past few days. I do not see a call to the video thumbnailer in your log.

Yes, Maik seen too this behavior...

The log come from the last build AppImage that i push to KDE server as offcial release. It will be published today i think.

It run on my older Mageia5 where digiKAm 4 was been installed. Perhaps there is a conflict somewhere in settings. I will take a look this evening more in details.

Ok, wrong alert. The typemime in my configuration from DK4 was corrupted or something like that.

To reset digiKam settings fix the problem. There is really a problem to backport DK4 to DK5 configuration. And i don't know why exactly. I suspect a problem in KXMLGUI API...

The video thumbnails are fine with DK5.4.0 AppImage

Pioter, I close this file now. Don't hesistate to re-open if necessary.

Well, I'm reopening because the problem with video thumbs is still there.
I'v just upgraded to 5.4.

Now when I recreate the thumbnails (pressing F5) the thumbs for video are gone (from gray boxes to no image). DK shows only empty box. So now there is no sign that this thumb is for video. Well, it is empty so I gues it is ;-)

Can you playing the videos in digiKam? Please try the AppImage for testing: http://download.kde.org/stable/digikam

Playing video works fine on DK from Phills ppa. Click on the empty thumbnail and it plays nicely.

Can you start digiKam from the console and press F5 in an album with maybe only 2 videos and post the output of the console?

I have tried to reproduce the error, but when copied some video files to isolate them from huge folder they generally have properly regenerated thumbs.
Today I have uploaded new video files and they have good thumbs. So let say the problem has gone in DK 5.4.
