picture name with alphabetic character are missmathched, in Dolphin looks fine, not so in Digikam.
Example order in Dolphin:
IMGP8093.jpg; IMGP8094.jpg; IMGP8094b.jpg; IMGP8094b2.jpg; IMGP8095.jpg
Same in Digikam is:
IMGP8093.jpg; IMGP8094b2.jpg; IMGP8094b.jpg; IMGP8094.jpg; IMGP8095.jpg

Second : please check if Universal Linux AppImage bundle of digiKam 5.4.0 pre-release has the same problem. It's here to download :

You can enable or disable natural sort order in the setup.

natural sort enable also not help, thanks to Maik.
I installed Digikam 5.4 on windows to test it, same problem.

But how is it on your Digikam? Yust remane some picture like my examples?

PS Exif2 has still errors, still temp files, but they are coming only when write the tag (Stichwort) in the exif file.
