trying to open audiocd out of gnome ends with:
URL cannot be listed
audiocd:/?device=/dev/sr0

to make sure it is not something else, i tried with kaudiocreator: it works, connects to musicbrainz and lists the contents.

You mean you try to open a CD from the Gnome file browser or from the file Browser inside Amarok? SInce you choose the File Browser category this might be misleading...

with gnome file browser you mean something like nautilus or nemo? there it works. it does not work inside amarok. XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP is GNOME.
