Plasmashell hogs CPU while network connection is being configured

When LAN is being configured and the network icon in the system tray is decorated with the spinning circle, plasmashell process consumes 100% of a CPU core. See the attached screenshot. When network connection is established, the 100% CPU load stops.

In my case it happened while I was diagnosing network problems, so the spinning circle was shown for a long time, and for the whole time plasmashell was loading the CPU.

Kubuntu 16.10, x86_64, Nvidia drivers 375.26.
