When => Every time Version => Ubuntu Zesty proposed After login plasma starts normally, but when an application is launched (konsole, firefox, etc...) the task manager widget crashes which leads to loosing all the desktop, no wallpapers, no panels, etc. The launched application does not die. After crashing the desktop plasma restarts but again dies. If right clicked on the task manager widget (prior yo launching any app) and opening the widget settings the desktop crashes as usual, but after plasma restarts the report bug icon appears (and since the widget crashed there are no tuning apps so the task manager does not crash again). I'm able to reproduce the crash in every use, but can't locate de debug symbols to produce a better report with backtraces. According to the report crash tool the debugs symbols are needed for plasmashell, libtaskmanager, libtaskmanagerplugin and libQt5Qml but can not locate the packages to install them.

Could you ask in #kubuntu for the debug symbol package names? A reliably reproducable crash is great but we really need the backtrace to progress.
Might have been a missing dependency. When I installed plasma-workspace-dbgsym it also installed the non debug symbols package and another non-debug package, so maybe I had a missing dependency. However the system has been working perfectly fine until update to 5.8 (I've been in Zesty since week 1). Right now no longer fails the taskmanager and can no longer reproduce the crash. I mark this report as fixed.
I have this bug too, using the backports on Kubuntu 16.10. I have it since the update to Plasma 5.7.5. Plasmashell crash if I have a Task manager widget anywhere on the desktop/panel. Without it, everything is working smoothly. I have no "report bug" windows shown.
@Javier: could you re-open this bug please ?
Since you are using a different Plasma version, the actual bug might be different. Please report your issue separately, including the backtrace of the crash.
@Lapineige: Check if you have plasma-workspace installed and/or try to install de debug symbols to see if any other package hets installed too, just to discard a packaging bug.
(In reply to Javier from comment #7) > @Lapineige: Check if you have plasma-workspace installed and/or try to > install de debug symbols to see if any other package hets installed too, > just to discard a packaging bug. Installing plasma-workspace solved the issue. And I'm now using the version 5.8.4, not 5.7.5 (I didn't restarted, just installed this package). I suppose something went wrong when updating to the backports. Now a lib (liblegacytaskmanager5) is no longer used as apt reported. Many thanks :)
