Big security problem. All forms of screen locking are disabled by the Desktop Grid. Automatic locking doesn't work, and Super+L doesn't work.
This is a well known limitation of X11 - see for example my blog post on the topic: https://blog.martin-graesslin.com/blog/2015/01/why-screen-lockers-on-x11-cannot-be-secure/ On Wayland the problem is fixed on X11 it's impossible to fix.

Okay, though I guess I have to ask why the menus and overview mode in GNOME3 don't prevent screen locking.

Gnome is gnome, KWin is KWin. It's pretty useless to say that this works in gnome. It cannot with our implementation.
