The maps appear to be missing roads in marble compared to other maps like openstreetmap.

See attached screenshots. One is from the latest version of Marble from the android play store. The other is from browsing the openstreetmap website. Both show the same location, Mytchett in Surrey, UK (GU16 6DX is a good search criteria).

I would expect those roads to appear as they're not new, and are well populated.

Hi,

Thanks for your bug report.
You probably missed this sentence in our announcement:

"For the first version there are Germany and 200 cities world-wide in full detail, as well as most European countries and the USA in high detail (up to tile level 13 or 15). For the rest of the world we provide medium detail at least (up to tile level 9). The plan, of course, is to provide full vector data for the whole world in the near future."

I'm quite sure that we will have the UK covered at level 19 within the time before Christmas. We do provide the London Area already - unfortunately the western boundary of that portion is just about 8km away from your town (Big sorry!).

Hi,

I'm sorry for filing a useless bug.

However, don't assume everyone saw your announcement - I didn't. I found the app via a post on Google plus which made no mention.

https://plus.google.com/u/0/109002795119670287274/posts/9iBDVJ7TPfr

I searched for it in the play store (because there was no link in the above post). I found it here, and installed on my device:-

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.kde.marble.maps

Note, there's no mention there either. This was the first time I'd heard of Marble (that I recall).

You may want to update the Play store description. I imagine most Play store users aren't going to sign up to the KDE bug tracker to have this super fun interaction, but will more likely just stab the one star review (as they often do :( ).

I will of course keep it installed and keep an eye out for updates.

Thanks for the super fast reply!

Cheers,
Al.

So there is a bug after all: You are correct that we should mention this in the playstore. Thanks a lot for pointing this out!

Thanks for reporting. I added a note about the map data limitation to the Play store description now.
Tile data for the missing level 17 for Great Britain and some other countries are currently being created and should appear on Android devices within the next 24 hours. These countries have the same level of detail like Germany then.

Woohoo! Thanks guys!

There's detailed data now for Ireland, Portugal and Spain on the server. For reasons I still have to investigate the tile creation for Great Britain is extremely slow, more than ten times slower than other countries. I stopped it now, I hope I find time over the weekend to look into it.

I haven't resurrected Marble Maps yet (but I plan to do that).

However in the Marble desktop version the streets show up properly. Thanks to Volker Krause (https://www.volkerkrause.eu/2020/07/25/updating-marble-osm-data-server.html) the tiles now get generated on demand.
