Description jeanlucpontiac 2016-11-19 22:17:04 UTC
Fresh install. App crashes every time I try to create a new document from template. Installed today and worked fine until I de-selected Open GL, then re-selected (without restarting). The next time I opened it, and tried to create a new document, it crashed. I have been unable to open it since.

Also crashes now when trying to open an existing document.

Tried reinstalling over existing, no luck.

I suspect that your graphics driver isn't compatible with Krita's opengl canvas: which GPU and driver version do you have?

Hi Boudewijn,

That's what I thought too, except that when I first installed it, it worked
fine. It was only after I unchecked OpenGL and then rechecked it that the
troubles began.
I'm using Intel HD 4000 integrated graphics, which apparently is compatible
with Open GL 4.0, but potentially not Krita's implementation of it? I
hadn't updated anything for a long time, and as I say, when I first
installed, it worked fine. 2.9.11.0 works perfectly, so for the time being,
that's what I'll use.

I did update my display drivers to the latest available, then tried to
install 3.0.1.1 over 2.9.11.0 (which didn't work), and also tried
uninstalling completely and reinstalling from scratch (also didn't work).
Same result each time, always crashes when I try to create a new document.

In any case, hopefully the attached is helpful. I'm running a pretty
middle-of-the-road machine, so it might be helpful for other casual users
to know of potential issues with similar machines.

Thanks for taking a look! I'm always blown away how fast you respond! I'm
glad you and your team are around--Krita is amazing (even the slightly
older versions)!

Any word on this? According to what I attached previously, my system
supports up to Open GL4. It has no issues at all running any other
graphics/art programs.

Additionally, it ran without incident when I installed it--as stated
previously, it only had problems after I turned off Open GL, then turned it
back on again.

If the problem is caused by toggling the openGL, maybe there's something wrong with the config file instead. Could you rename the file(as noted here: https://docs.krita.org/KritaFAQ#Resetting_Krita_configuration ), check if that has an effect, and if so, upload it here? That way we can check if there's something funny going on with the config file.

Hi Wolthera,

No luck there either. I tried both renaming and deleting (though saving a
backup elsewhere), and no difference. I'm not sure this is a problem, but,
in the instructions, it says the path is:

user\Appdata\Roaming\krita\kritarc or %APPDATA%\Roaming\krita\kritarc,

But I didn't find it in this path. Instead, in \Roaming\, I found it
further down than that:

<User>/AppData/Roaming/krita/share/config

I did find another kritarc file that sort of matched that path structure,
but it was in \Local\ rather than \Roaming\:

<User/AppData/Local/krita

I tried both renaming and deleting both of those files, and no luck. Each
time, when I attempt to open a document whether new or saved, Krita
crashes, although the interface itself opens just fine.

The Windows crash log indicates libkritaimage.dll as the source of the
problem. Is this something that I can see, modify, or replace?

Thanks for taking a look!

I cannot reproduce this -- and it's really strange. If you remove the krita configuration, something that is caused by changing the configuration should no longer be possible to happen!

In any case, we did quite a lot of rewriting of the opengl code for 3.1, so could check whether this still happens with the release candidate? (https://krita.org/en/item/krita-3-1-release-candidate/)

Hi Boudewijn,

It was very weird--I think I found all the config files and got rid of
them, but the file structure was different than what Wolthera indicated it
should be, so maybe one was hiding somewhere, or that setting was
persisting somewhere else?

The good news is, 3.0.0.94 is working without a hitch so far!

If I get brave, I'll try to reproduce the error I was getting once I'm
pretty sure there's another significant update coming that could repair
whatever damage might occur, but for the time being, I'm glad to be back in
Krita! Some intriguing developments happening in this update :)

Thanks again,
- JLP
