Choose a clip on the timeline; made my choices on the render Dialog for video output. Started render process. In any cases it always resulted in a black video with no sound.
With this limited information it is impossible to track down your issue. Can you please either install Kdenlive from the Kdenlive project ppa, either stable, or main together with updated MLT and frei0r packages? Does the problem persist? What codec packages did you install?

I did a complete new install of Kubuntu 16.04 LT. I installed Kdenlive from ppa.launchpad.net/kdenlive/kdenlive-stable/ubuntu. I installed extra codeces (see attached file) I updated frei0r and MLT. (see attached file) After a reboot everything works fine.
