Description Marc Chamberlin 2016-10-24 02:08:30 UTC
Trying to figure out how to load in a new collection of images into digicam is straight out of the book of software hell. This as GOT TO BE THE MOST FOWLED UP USER INTERFACE DESIGN I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED! How in the world is a user suppose to be able to figure out how to create a new collection of images for an album! 99% of all applications would have the user go to a File pull down menu where he/she could find a New and/or Open command and proceed from there. I initially tried to go to the Album menu but found everything grayed out and disabled. After an HOUR OF SEARCHING I finally found that the answer is to go into the Settings menu > Configure Digicam > Collections and from there I could add a new collection! How in GOD'S GREEN EARTH do you expect users to discover such a non-intuitive approach??? What use case studies did you do before designing such a god awful user interface? Wow! what an ill-thought out mess!

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a directory with a bunch of pictures in it.
2. Open Digicam
3. Try and figure out how to create a new album and add said pictures/collection to it.

Actual Results:
Intuition fails! The solution is totally illogical!

Expected Results:
I expect an easy to find/understand paradigm similar to thousands of other software applications.

The Album > New menu item should NEVER be grayed out! The user should ALWAYS have the ability to create a new album/collection. Additionally there should be an Open menu item that allows the user to open an existing album from anywhere, including the local disk drives, and again that is a button that should never be grayed out and disabled.

If you try that we will listen this kind of feedback... This is the first time that is see a report like this...

To resume : there is a common place for settings to be "homogeneous" and quickly suitable. Al KDE are done like this. If this is not adapted to your mind, feel free to use another application.
