When my laptop is unplugged from AC power, the entire linux system will freeze within about 10-15 seconds. This also applies when logging in on battery mode. Everything freezes at some point. I also have the latest version of MATE desktop installed and do not have the same problems with it. Also was not having issues in debian testing roughly back in July, so it is a recent break.
