Possibly as a result of the fix to Bug 174606, when an OTR contact goes offline and reappears, attempting to send further messages to them results in the following error message in the chat window: # somecontact@example.com has already closed his/her private connection to you. Your message was not sent. Either end your private conversation, or restart it. This is probably the correct behaviour for Kopete. However, there is no obvious way of complying with the suggestion. How does one end or restart the private conversation? I can't find these commands in any pull-down or context menu. Comments in Bug 174606 refer to a "Tools->OTR Settings->End OTR Session" command, and to an "Chat Toolbar" with an OTR icon, though neither of these seem to exist in Kopete 1.6.60. If there exists some way of ending or restarting a private conversation, it should be made more discoverable. If not, this functionality should be added. Reproducible: Always
In Kopete 1.10.1 I see "Tools->OTR Settings->End OTR Session" option. I tested and both Start and End options are working correctly. Please retest with last version of Kopete if problem is still there for you or not.
OK, I'm testing Kopete 1.10.1 now. I've verified that the OTR plugin is enabled. I still don't see any Tools menu. The only pull-down menus in the main Kopete window are File, Edit, Settings, and Help. The individual chat windows have no pull-down menus. Where am I supposed to be finding it?
Looks very strange. Please provide screenshot, I really cannot believe that there is no Conversation or Format or Tools menu... Also via Settings you should be able to configure toolbars and add here OTR icon (if you do not have it already).
Created attachment 102015 [details] Screenshot of Kopete 1.10.1 showing no Tools menu
OK, I have attached a screenshot. The Settings->Configure Toolbars dialog does not list any OTR-related actions.
But not main window. Window in which you are writing conversation... Window where is your active OTR.
I can't reproduce the problem in Kopete 1.10.1 because whenever I start an OTR conversation in that version, Kopete crashes. I haven't had time to investigate further -- I may need to file a separate bug for the crash and then come back to this one later.
Sorry, by "I can't reproduce the problem" in my last comment, I meant "I can't take a screenshot of an OTR chat window".
In this case please report new bug with whole stack trace, so we can investigate it.
Created attachment 104302 [details] Screenshot of chat window showing instruction to end OTR session, but no toolbar OK, I finally got around to upgrading my office computer, which now runs Kopete 1.10.1 (and doesn't crash on launching an OTR session). Attached is a screenshot of a chat window. My contact has just left the chat, and Kopete tells me to close the OTR session. However, there's no obvious way of doing so -- no OTR toolbar or anything else.
Seems to hide main menu in chat window. Press CTRL+M to toggle visibility of main menu. And then you should have Tools menu in main menu.
Yes, Ctrl+M brings up a pull-down menu bar, and there are OTR commands listed. I wonder why this menu wasn't displayed by default, though. Is it like this for everyone?
It is not by default and it is some (central?) default KDE settings. Also linux distributions provides their own defaults, so maybe this is reason...
I will close this bug as invalid as buttons are there and their visibility is related to some KDE settings, not to Kopete.
