Gwenview starts automatically by clicking on hyperlinks of images – but has no option to copy the file to the /home-directory. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. I clicked on an URL in Konversation ending on .jpg. 2. Gwenview opened up. 3. After being able to 'view' the image there is A) neither a 'save file' option for me (it is not selectable), nor does the B) 'share this file'-icon do something that works. C) Nor was I able to simply grab the picture and copy it by dragging it to a directory in the file-manager Dolphin. Actual Results: While beeing able to see the image I am not able to save the image. Thinking about this I believe that this could lead to a risk of losing data. Expected Results: What I was expecting: Actually I expected a browser to open up. Not Gwenview. Browsers can handle this. If I wish to explore a file from the Internet with a graphical viewer, I can simply save it – and have a look at that file later. So, now Gwenview shows me the file – not my browser. That is also not really bad … but it then needs at least a function that I can copy the image to my Documents-folder. Apart from an expected 'save file to…'-option which should be mandatory, I would also expect a drag&drog-feature that can handle this situation as well. I am using the current Kubuntu 16.04. LTS Gwenview version: Version 15.12.3; E Frameworks 5.18.0; Qt 5.5.1 (kompiliert gegen 5.5.1); Das xcb Fenstersystem Thank you for your work and attention. All the best to you!
Thanks for your effort to report this. > A) neither a 'save file' option for me (it is not selectable) This option only becomes active when you modify an image, e.g. when rotating a JPG. > B) 'share this file'-icon do something that works. While I would support such functionality, this would be a larger effort spanning all KDE applications. > C) Nor was I able to simply grab the picture and copy it > by dragging it to a directory in the file-manager Dolphin. Dragging pans the image when you are zoomed in. If in "Fit" mode, this could be a reasonable thing to have, though. Would you mind opening a new wish for that? That said, for local images your use case would be covered today with the following options: - Click on "Browse", drag image to Dolphin. - Open "Thumbnail Bar", drag image to Dolphin. - Use context menu or "File" menu, then select "Copy To". - Just press F7. --- However, this does not work for remote images, e.g. for "gwenview https://dot.kde.org/sites/all/themes/neverland/logo.png". Specifically, we have to observe: - No thumbnail shown - "Browse mode" empty - "Copy To" disabled I wonder if some of this could be fixed by first copying the remote file to FDO's $TMP folder and then opening it as a local file. But maybe this clashes with smb:/ use cases?
Turns out there is already a bug report regarding this shortcoming. As for the dragging operation, I filed a wish in bug 386034. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 343796 ***
