If you have any Activities set up in Neon and update to version 5.8.1, you get a black screen once you log in. The system boots okay, and you can login, but after the logo and spinner appears for a few moments, you are greeted with a black screen. Right-clicking on the desktop has no effect. Ctl+Alt+Del shows the shutdown options. Krunner cannot be accessed. The only way to prevent this, is to delete all but the default Activity and do a system reboot before doing the update. Adding a new Activity once 5.8.1 is installed will cause the black screen again. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Update Neon to 5.8.1 2. Reboot 3. Actual Results: As described Expected Results: Prior Activities should work as they did in version 5.8.0 Happened on both my PC and a HP laptop with dual AMD/ATI graphics card. Confirmed by other users in Neon forum.
The latest updates released on 14th October have not fixed this problem. If you create an Activity, it will work until you log out or reboot. You are then greeted with the black screen with pointer once you have logged in.
Regarding the forum discussion: Cobber mentioned that the culprit is maybe KActivites. Can somebody confirm? Then we should move the bug report to this component instead of general Neon.
Think I have found the problem. If I use the Activity Bar instead of the Activity Pager widget, the problem does not occur. Checking the file system reveals in "/usr/share/plasma/org.kde.plasma.activitypager" the subfolders and file "/contents/ui/main.qml" are missing.
Added Eike Hein to the email list, since he restructured Activity Pager before 5.8. See: https://phabricator.kde.org/D2677
Sorry, path was wrong as you probably realize. Should be "/usr/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.plasma.activitypager"
