When a file is moved, it retains its tags, comments and rating. This should be the desired behaviour, correct? However when a file is just copied or edited/saved, then all of the above data (tags, comments, rating) get destroyed. Retaining these data during a Dolphin copy operation could be fixed by giving the user an option to invoke the "cp -a" command or just by enabling it by default for all copy operations in Dolphin. I don't know if the fixing of the "editing/saving" part can be done by the Dolphin team, but perhaps you can forward it to the appropriate team... Dolphin is really getting where it needs to be, keep up the good work!
I make use of tags in my system and this would greatly be appreciated! it is probably also not too much work to implement it...
This bug seems to be related to this other (older) bug report: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=274327 For the record, this bug seems to affect all versions of KDE Plasma 5 and probably all versions of KDE4 as well. I think that we should focus on fixing it for the Plasma 5. Though it would be nice in KDE4 as well.
Yep, it's the same report. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 274327 ***

I have just posted a bounty for this bug. I'd like to see this issue fixed for both situations: 1) when saving a file with extended file attributes 2) when copying a file/folder with extended file attributes I know that this issue is multifaceted and serious, so this is my attempt to give it some renewed visibility and momentum! Please note that I will need to see it solved in the KDE Neon Developer edition before I release the reward! Happy coding! :) relevant bug reports: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=370543 https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=274327 https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=116617 bounty page: https://www.bountysource.com/issues/54395598-please-add-extended-attribute-support-setxattr-getxattr
