Description John Salatas 2016-10-07 20:42:51 UTC
The updates notification icon in system tray isn't shown any more.

Howver, the discovernotifier plasmoid works ok if I add it to the panel.

Reproducible: Always

After comparing 5.8.0 with the master branch in git, it seems that the problem is caused by the line

X-KDE-ParentApp=org.kde.discover.desktop

in the file

/usr/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.discovernotifier/metadata.desktop

Maybe this problem is also related to the older bugreport: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=347496

Although before 5.8 it worked for me in Neon User edition.

Not sure about the older bug, but the reason for this bug is the line
X-KDE-ParentApp=org.kde.discover.desktop
in the file
/usr/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.discovernotifier/metadata.desktop

If you remove this line, the icon is shown again.

It is already fixed in the master branch in git but I believe it is a good idea to be fixed also in 5.8 branch as it is supposed to be an LTS release.

Yea, you're right. It was already fixed by Aleix Pol and I assume it will land with 5.8.1. Aleix pushed it to 5.8 branch. You can close this bug report as duplicate of https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=369644.
