System tray always use 22px icons in small panel. However, Kimpanel icons are always bigger than system tray icons. It doesn't use standard icon sizes: 22px, 32px... Scaled icons are ugly. http://imgur.com/CdJLXdq Reproducible: Always

This is still the case in 5.16.90. The icons also look ugly with a dark theme.
Is this still happening to you in Plasma 5.25 or later?
With Plasma 5.25.5, I see no icon at all for the Input Method widget (ximpanel). Tested both on ArchLinux and on Fedora 37 beta.

Forgot to mention that I'm using a Wayland session and I'm using IBus rather than XIM... In case kimpanel isn't supposed to be used in this session, would it be possible to hide it from the widgets list? If this isn't feasible, then change the friendly name shown to users from "Input Method Panel" to something more specific to X11 or XIM... or maybe remove it from the default install of Plasma.
Having no icon is different from a mis-sized icon! :) Can you file a new bug report for that?
