Description Hans Überacher 2016-10-04 21:34:53 UTC
I've repeatedly tried unpacking files with similar long, complex files from archives. Ark unpacks them successfully, but invariably cuts off the first half or so of the filename, leaving me with a filename starting with a ".", so it's hidden. I suspect it's the filenames or special characters therein that are the problem

Example:

Filename as contained in archive:
abcd.abcd.2016.10.03.abcd.abcd.720p.HDTV.x264-ABCD.www.abcd.com.mkv

resulting filename of unpacked file:
.www.abcd.com.mkv

I tried unpacking the same file with file-roller, it doesn't have that problem.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Do the things I describe above
2. See for yourself.

Can you please provide more details:
1. What archive type did this happen with?
2. How exactly did you extract the archive (drag-and-drop, right-click in Dolphin, extract action within Ark)?
3. If the archive is small can you attach it to this bug report, or provide a link if it's an online archive?
4. Did you try with a more recent version of Ark i.e. 16.08?

Hi - thanks for responding so quickly!!

1. It was a .rar archive (it happened with several all with similar file names)
2. I dragged-and-dropped. I just tried reproducing the bug by opening, right-clicking the file in ark and selecting the extraction path and it worked FINE. So maybe it'ts the drag-and-drop.
3. The archive is rather large ( more than 2 Gigs) and I don't feel comfortable posting the link (I'm sorry, I know this makes things harder)
4. I'll try that and get back to you

Can you copy-paste here the *actual* filename that was cropped?
Even better if you could provide the ark debug output: from terminal run

$ export QT_LOGGING_RULES=ark.*.debug=true
$ ark

Hi -- I'd rather not paste it here. But I'll mail the debug output to you, Elvis.

Sure. Please do.

Closing for now, as discussed via email. Please reopen if you can reproduce with Ark 16.08
