I'm suffering from one (I'm not sure which) of the many bugs in KMail2 that results in new messages getting duplicated en masse.  To remove these, I use the "Remove Duplicate Messages" command from the "Folder" menu.  While this command does seem to work, it has a number of undesirable side-effects.  Here is what happens when I run the command:

1. A progress bar–like throbber appears in the status bar. 

2. After several seconds (or minutes, for particularly large folders), a completely blank message dialog appears.  It has a big red icon on it so I assume it's a serious error (though maybe it's just supposed to be telling me how many duplicates have been removed?).  See attached screenshot.

3. After pressing OK on the error dialog, I am returned to the main KMail window.

4. Nothing happens for about five seconds.  Then, the throbber finally stops and the duplicated messages disappear from the message list.

Some further information, in case it's useful:

The folders I am deduping are local maildir folders.

When the error dialog appears, the message "Item query returned empty result set" is spammed to the console.
