Description Gregor Mi 2016-10-03 11:35:26 UTC
The current transparency on the kicker/kickoff menu is a bit too high for my old eyes. Can I somewhere tone down the transparency (and maybe reduce it to 0)?

This is what is currently looks like with the breeze dark theme:

Enable blur and background contrast effects and/or use a proper graphics driver.
Comment 2 Gregor Mi 2016-10-03 12:05:23 UTC
1) I looked in the Desktop Effects KCM:
The "Blur" or "Background Contrast" effects are apparently "not supported by the compositor" (see also https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=342934 -> https://bugsfiles.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=92061).

2) Can this be caused by the wrong graphics driver? (In other applications I use I experience no noticeable problems.) Is this maybe one of the things which Wayland will fix? :) Or would I still have to look for another driver?

Kai, with the XRender backend neither of those effects are present.

One way to solve this would be too turn off transparency completely when Blur/Background Contrast isn't enabled (for applauncher as well as panel etc) - but then again there are a few people who use it simply as is and I have no idea how tricky it is to create such a solution.
