Description Thomas.Meschede 2016-09-28 16:30:12 UTC
40_kde_neon_allyourprocessarebelongtous.conf with updates through the package manager

in 40_kde_neon_allyourprocessarebelongtous.conf I often set the

"KillUserProcesses=1"  to "KillUserProcesses=0"

so that I can run processes in the background as a user.

Everytime a run an "sudo apt upgrade" this file gets overwritten (at least I think thats when it happens)

This should either get turned on by default or the file not overwritten.

I don't ike this default behaviour anyway .. but at least the user should get the chance to turn this on if thy need it.

It's a neon feature to allow shutdown to work

if you want to override it set it in /etc/systemd/logind.conf

see  man logind.conf

well.  I tried that ..

the problem is, that the "override" does not work. I can still only run background processes with the setting in the before-mentioned file.

in KDE neon User Edition 5.9 this still doesn't work...

this is my /etc/systemd/logind.conf:

[Login]
KillUserProcesses=no

user processes get killed after logging out with this setting. Only
fix is the above mentioned change of
40_kde_neon_allyourprocessarebelongtous.conf.

As workaround you can add a file named 50_whatthefuck_neon.conf and pace it in /usr/lib/systemd/logind.conf.d:
[Login]
KillUserProcesses=0

I just wanted to say that this worked. I will report again, whether this also works through an update.

also, I don't understand this explanation:

"It's a neon feature to allow shutdown to work" What does the shutdown have to do with the ability to have background processes?
