Any change made to the backend, scaling or animation speed under wayland will get you a black/no output screen as soon as you hit the apply button. I can still switch to another vt to terminate the session, after login in again i noticed the previous changes that caused the "crash" where applied. This may be related to this one Bug 365471. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Log in to a wayland session 2.Go to system setting>display and monitor>compositor 3.Make any change and hit apply. Actual Results: The screen goes black with no output, as stated by my monitor.
Which version are you using?
Kwin 4:5.5.5-0ubuntu1 Nouveau 1:1.0.12-1build2
(In reply to Tony from comment #2) > Kwin 4:5.5.5-0ubuntu1 That's way too old. Wayland support was extremely experimental back in 5.5 - we just released 5.8.
Sorry, i got you the wrong kwin version my bad, is 5.26 not 5.5.5

Sorry again, just updated Neon VM and my main system. apt-cache policy kwin kwin: Installed: 4:5.8.0+p16.04+git20161005.0500-0 My screen still goes black as soon i hit apply on any changes made to the compositor. On the VM instead of a black screen the desktop freeze/hangs instead. But as i was browsing the list of packages and noticed i was missing some that i think i should have had installed already.... kwin-wayland-backend-wayland xwayland-lts-xenial plasma-wayland-desktop kwin-wayland-backend-x11 ibus-wayland wayland-protocols libwayland-egl1-mesa-lts-xenial I installed them, problem still there, but now sometimes instead of getting a black screen i get thrown out to sddm which is better imo. ...... 2 commands, tons of options, same goal, i get confuse.... i'll stick to apt-cache policy and muon from now on....
