Reducing video quality reduces file size, reducing audio quality reduces file size. However, reducing audio quality in relation to reducing video quality reduces file size in an insignificant way: A low quality video with high quality audio is generally much smaller than a high quality video with low quality audio. Kdenlive mp4/x264 offers 192kbps as the maximum audio bitrate. Premiere Pro CC exporter for h.264 format has a medium profile at 192kbps and a high profile at 320kbps (which is the maximum possible value in the exporter). Youtube suggests 384kbps: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/1722171?hl=en Kdenlive has 5 quality settings. I suggest they get changed from audiobitrates="192,64" defaultaudiobitrate="160" in kdenlive/data/profiles.xml in lines 10 (HD) and 27 (UHD) and 54 (audio only AC3) to audiobitrates="384,128" defaultaudiobitrate="256" This is assuming that audiobitrates defines max and min and that all others get calculated automatically. Reproducible: Always Taking a look at the render window in https://youtu.be/2knzVBOIDIM
As a work around. Make a own profile from an existing one and change the audio rate there in.
Can you please test the latest version and see if you can still reproduce?
