Description Nicolas Dietrich 2016-09-14 20:42:22 UTC
Plugging an external HDMI monitor with a higher resolution (1920x1200) to my laptop (1920x1080) where the external screen is *left* of the primary screen, leads to the panel being moved to the external screen, however not on the bottom, but 120 px "in the air", which corresponds to the bottom of the primary screen where the panel would actually belong (see attached file "panel-in-the-air-1.png").

If I configure the primary screen to be even more "top" relative to the secondary screen, the panel moves accordingly (see "panel-in-the-air-2.png").

This might be a duplicate of bug #356225, however I didn't see the relative panel positioning issue before, so I decided to open up a new issue.

Note that this only happens when the external secondary screen is configured to be *left* of the primary laptop screen!

Reproducible: Always

I forgot to mention that this happens on neon/unstable since around yesterday (2016-09-13).
Comment 4 Nicolas Dietrich 2016-09-28 20:09:45 UTC
Still happens in the 5.8 beta branch.

in addition, the panel is missing after i unplug the second monitor

i can get it back by rotating the the primary display (laptop screen) in "system settings" -> "display and monitor" by 90 degrees and back.

if it matters, my laptop is a macbook air with intel gpu and thunderbolt (Mini DisplayPort).

a screenshot demonstrating the problem (virtual areas in red)

I think this is related:
when i open a picture in dolphin, the gwenview window is too big. i can't see the title bar on the small screen (see attachment). I can move it with alt and when maximizing the correct size is used.

maximizing works normally.

the attached screen layout was made automatically when attaching the cable (if it matters: same apple macbook air with thunderbolt / mini display port and intel on board gpu)

Thanks for the report Nicholas, I've tested this on KDE Neon Unstable and cannot reproduce the issue.

Can you please test and confirm if this issue still persists, thanks.
Comment 9 Adam 2020-11-09 12:54:54 UTC
I tested on neon unstable 20201108 on the same macbook air and it seems that the issue is gone.

thanks.
