Opening widgets (like menu, calendar, quick search) have delayed animation by approximately 1s. Window focus is lost immediately after click. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. enable compositing 2. click on program activator (menu) Actual Results: opening animation stats after ~1s delay Expected Results: animation should start immediately Issue is present only when compositing is enabled Bug present since i think plasma 5.5 Bug is present on 2 machines, one with intel skylake graphics (modesetting driver), second machine radeon open source driver
can you run xev in the background to monitor whether the window actually opens? I'm wondering whether the problem is that the window does open delayed or whether KWin doesn't show it.
In xev all events are emitted immediately click.
Do I understand correctly that the problem is only with Plasma elements?
correct
Reassigning to plasma - opening QtQuick windows is too slow
There is no artificial delay. Some things could be faster, and we are constantly improving that, but that's not a specific bug.
In this issue I cannot observe any increase of cpu, so this is more. Attaching strace of plasmashell while opening menu. Additional note: htop report virtual memory allocation at 264G (!)
Created attachment 101991 [details] Plasma strace
Can you take a look on strace and confirm if those EAGAIN are causing this issue?
Works for me; it's instant now as of Plasma 5.21. Can you re-test? Thanks!
