Opening widgets (like menu, calendar, quick search) have delayed animation by approximately 1s.
Window focus is lost immediately after click.

Reproducible: Always

1. enable compositing
2. click on program activator (menu)

Actual Results:
opening animation stats after ~1s delay

Expected Results:
animation should start immediately

Issue is present only when compositing is enabled
Bug present since i think plasma 5.5
Bug is present on 2 machines, one with intel skylake graphics (modesetting driver), second machine radeon open source driver

can you run xev in the background to monitor whether the window actually opens? I'm wondering whether the problem is that the window does open delayed or whether KWin doesn't show it.
Comment 2 Piotr Rogowski 2016-09-06 11:09:47 UTC
In xev all events are emitted immediately click.
Comment 3 Martin Flöser 2016-11-02 14:46:16 UTC
Do I understand correctly that the problem is only with Plasma elements?
Comment 4 Piotr Rogowski 2016-11-02 16:02:07 UTC
correct
Comment 5 Martin Flöser 2016-11-02 16:39:39 UTC
Reassigning to plasma - opening QtQuick windows is too slow
Comment 6 David Edmundson 2016-11-02 22:36:55 UTC
There is no artificial delay.

Some things could be faster, and we are constantly improving that, but that's not a specific bug.
Comment 7 Piotr Rogowski 2016-11-03 07:19:27 UTC
In this issue I cannot observe any increase of cpu, so this is more.
Attaching strace of plasmashell while opening menu.
Additional note: htop report virtual memory allocation at 264G (!)

Comment 9 Piotr Rogowski 2016-11-05 13:35:24 UTC
Can you take a look on strace and confirm if those EAGAIN are causing this issue?
Comment 10 Nate Graham 2021-03-10 00:17:42 UTC
Works for me; it's instant now as of Plasma 5.21. Can you re-test? Thanks!
