Description davidblunkett 2016-08-29 08:43:54 UTC
I've a sun 7 keyboard - the actual layout of the keyboard differs from the layouts on offer. The reason is there are some variants that KDE doesn't appear to know - in this case the layour insists I'v got Meta_R - Comp - Alt-GR at the bottom left when I've actually got Alt-GR - Meta_R - Comp. The problem is there appears to be no way to change this or change the function of the keys.

Previously KDE had a utility that allowed me to see what key was being pressed, allowed me to change the function of that key and allowed the layout to be changed. Now it has the incorrect layout and a restricted set of options in "advanced" that does not allow me to make the change I want.

What I actually want to achieve is (1) the correct layout and (2) mapping Meta_R to CTRL_R (because there is no CTRL_R on the keyboard).

I also recall a utility that showed the keyboard, which keys were being pressed and the keycodes which seems to have gone in favour of a static layout that does not respond to key presses and a test area that does not respond to symbol free keys - neither of which let me know the keycode or if Meta_R is being mapped to Meta_R or ALT_GR (since either are possible).

So the "bug" as such is - incorrect or missing layouts in KDE keyboard db, lack of configurability and diagnostic ability in the keyboard settings system. I'd be happy hacking the layout files but I can't find out where these are kept.

Reproducible: Always
