In TotalCommander, there is a great option to force refresh of the contents of a directory (eg when new files are added, or timestamp is changed, etc.). There is even an option to force refresh when the application is in the background. Ideally Krusader would have those. But in principle, it would be great to have an option to "autorefresh" without the user having to reload every time. In the current state of affairs, every time I produce a new file (eg print to a PDF), I don't see it immediately. I have to press Ctrl+R to "reload". This is rather cumbersome, but even more because this _only reloads the panel in focus_ Therefore if I had the bad luck of having the wrong panel in focus I have to bring it first into focus (eg. click or tab), and only then I can refresh the contents of the directory. A working "autorefresh" or similar option would save all this. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Open krusader with two panels (right and left sides). Open any file (eg text document) with your favorite application. 1. Make any change (using a non-krusader application) to the directory (eg in the left side), for example print the file to a PDF and place it (from the print dialog) into the left side panel 2. krusader does not show the new file 3. go to krusader and pressing Ctrl+R will refresh ONLY if the left panel is in focus. 4. if the right panel was in focus, then click within the left side, and press Ctrl+R again. Only now it reloads and shows the change (eg newly created PDF file). Actual Results: Only the focused panel reloads Expected Results: All visible panels refresh their contents Ideally, there would be an option to force krusader to show any change to any panel in any case, even when krusader is out of focus. Note: I'm not sure if this is the intended behavior, I think it's not super intuitive so I'm marking as bug. But maybe I'm wrong..
In KDE 4, panels are updated even when Krusader (2.4.0) is in background. In Plasma, panels are updated only when Krusader (git version) is the active window. This commit https://quickgit.kde.org/?p=krusader.git&a=commit&h=79bdbb23c6b3415f99baa32401495a5bdb933c31 changed the behaviour described above. When Krusader is active, both visibile panels are updated. It is not safe to refresh all panels (even the not visible ones), it could freeze waiting for reading slow directories. Remember that the version 2.4 is kde4 based, which is no more developed since nov 2014. The version 2.5 (kf5 based) should be released sooner. I'll change this bug to wishlist, but I won't close it, until more tests. Which DE (and version) are you using?
Hi, thanks a lot for your very fast response! Effectively, I'm using Linux Mint 17.3 KDE From KInfocenter: OS Version: Linux 4.4.0-28-generic KDE SC Version: 4.13.2 I look forward to using the next krusader version!
Please test again with KDE5/KF5 and latest stable version of Krusader (2.5.0)
I switched to Double Commander. But maybe someone else can try and share results.
