i got absolutely no text nor any user-visible message. i suspect it is lack of japanese fonts, but the program gives me nothing to work with. everything else on the document rendered fine. and the contents section on the left does show the section titles in japanese just fine, so my system do have at least one japanse font (i know i have several...) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. open this document http://panasonic.jp/p-db/contents/manualdl/1428052116391.pdf 2. 3. Actual Results: document renders without text. only images.
console doesn't show anything informative. $ okular nt_t500.pdf okular(16815)/kdecore (KConfigSkeleton) KCoreConfigSkeleton::writeConfig: okular(16815)/kdecore (KConfigSkeleton) KCoreConfigSkeleton::writeConfig: okular(16815)/kdecore (KConfigSkeleton) KCoreConfigSkeleton::writeConfig: okular(16815)/kdecore (KConfigSkeleton) KCoreConfigSkeleton::writeConfig: okular(16815)/kdecore (KConfigSkeleton) KCoreConfigSkeleton::writeConfig: okular(16815)/kdecore (KConfigSkeleton) KCoreConfigSkeleton::writeConfig: okular(16815)/kdecore (KConfigSkeleton) KCoreConfigSkeleton::writeConfig: here is -v output Qt: 4.8.7 KDE Development Platform: 4.14.22 Okular: 0.25.0 I cannot test if i can copy-paste the text to be able to read it because i get the silly "copy protected by DRM" or something dialog.
document renders fine on mozilla's pdf.js implementation.
Works fine here (poppler 0.44, okular 0.25.80). What is the poppler version in your system (can be seen in "pdftotext -v" output)? Thanks in advance for this information.
Also works here Okular: 0.20.3, poppler: 0.24.5 (Kubuntu 14.04, Qt: 4.8.6, KDE Development Platform: 4.14.13). > I cannot test if i can copy-paste the text to be able to read it because i get the silly "copy protected by DRM" or something dialog. Try unchecking the checkbox labeled "Obey drm restrictions" (Settings->Configure okular...). It is interesting that, even if I check the "Obey drm restrictions" I can still copy the text. (Adobe Acrobat Reader does not let me copy text.) P.S. Poppler version, I think, can be determined by running pdftotext -v

do you have poppler-data installed?
please answer the question.
If you can provide the information requested in comment #7, please add it.
Sorry its been a while. I do have that library. it is a dependency on poppler on archlinux, so i don't think I was ever missing it. $ pacman -Ss poppler-data extra/poppler-data 0.4.8-1 [installed] Encoding data for the poppler PDF rendering library But, i am on a rolling release distro. And now Okular is on 1.3.1 and everything looks nice! I get text just fine on that same file. if 0.25 is not being distributed anymore, i think this is Fixed.
