Description andreas 2016-07-16 18:41:17 UTC
on my system I can change the following things in Display Configuration:
- Display enable/disable
- Resolution: drop down menu
- Orientation
- advanced Settings
  - Refresh rate

I understand that refresh rate is in advanced settings but can you please add orientation also to advanced settings cause only 5% of the user need to rotate the screen.

advanced settings is usefull when you have a lot of very technical stuff to hide for the default user (simple by default, powerfull when needed) but in this KCM there is only ONE setting. when you write an book you won't add an header for one text that would also fit in the section above.

so please add orientation and refresh rate to advanced or remove the advanced settings text and show everything by default.

would be nice if the drop down buttons have all the same width.

Reproducible: Always

There are data from a survey that support this request: http://user-prompt.com/kscreen-results-of-the-user-survey/

Makes sense, yes.

I have quite a few issues with the UI as it currently is myself, but I want to concentrate on the underlying mechanisms first, and once that works (and we have better testing methods, wayland helps a great lot here), we can start improving the UI.

I disagree. Rotation becomes more important with convertable notebooks. For them it's important to rotate the screen as soon as they go into tablet mode. Ideally that's handled automatically. But that's not the point: orientation is no longer the weird thing nobody uses but a rather important core functionality.

in a tablet mode I would prefer a plasmoid that rotate the ui instead of a kcm where I can do that.

For tablets, the solution is auto-rotation, which is working or will eventually work on Wayland. I agree that this is now basic functionality for the KCM. The KCM itself is a fairly nerdy thing that regular users won't generally have a reason to go to, so IMO it's okay for it to display stuff like this in it.
