The icon-only taskmanager does sometimes not show new apps or updates existing. Hard to track down in what situation this happens. But reliable it keeps the last icon active when all programs are closed. In all unclear situations it helps when I change the panel height and thereby it is refreshed. There have been various changes since 5.7.1 that fix things in Icontasks. Are you able to test the 5.7 branches of plasma-desktop or plasma-workspace?

It's a productive system, well more or less since I still run KDE (scnr). I will install what Arch offers - and try to observe if the issue persists.
