Description mzs.112000@gmail.com 2016-07-14 05:34:58 UTC
On a laptop with 1 extra monitor connected to the VGA port, when I add a panel to the second screen, then all panels(even ones on the first screen) dissapear, and the wallpaper(even one the first screen) goes black, right clicking on the desktop does not result in any response. However, you can still access the window switcher on the screen corner, and(for me) the desktop cube on the other corner, but none of the virtual desktops have panels, and all have blank(black) desktops. Also KRunner still works, you can launch it and run programs from it. To return the computer to normal, you must reboot the computer(which will bring back the default panels(but all user customized favorites are preserved).

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Connect a second monitor to your computer.
2. Add a panel to the second monitor.
3. Watch as the desktop becomes unresponsive, and turns black. However you can still open KRunner, and the desktop cube.

Actual Results:
The desktop becomes unresponsive, wallpaper turns black, all panels(including those on the first monitor) disapear. To return to normal, you must reboot the computer.

Expected Results:
A new panel should be added.

My computer is:
Dell Precision M4400
Core 2 Duo P8700 2.50GHz
2GB DDR2 800MHz
nVidia Quadro FX 770M

Software is:
Archlinux
KDE Plasma 5.7.1
KDE Frameworks 5.24
KDE Application 16.04
QT 5.7.0
64-Bit with multilib support.
I have modified the kdeplasma-wallpapers package.

so plasmashell crashes.

Given you don't get drkonqui that probably means it's a stack overflow.

Can you run:
- gdb plasmashell

from a konsole from krunner, then reproduce this.

Then when it crashes type "bt" and paste that and reopen this bug.

So I just tried that, konsole does not start(and using virtual ttys(tty2, etc....) does not work either, no login prompt from them). So I cannot do any terminal related stuff, maybe this is a problem with the Linux kernel?

Also, I just tried adding a new panel to the laptop but without the second monitor, did not happen when I added a blank panel, but it did crash when I started to add widgets.
